Flashback 2015: 10 Biggest Disappointments Of The Year
So, Bollywood filmmakers have learnt how to create hype around their products and nothing is sacred when it comes to promoting movies.

But many times, a movie still fails at the ticket windows. We flashback to the 10 most anticipated films of 2015 which failed to live up to expectations.

TEVAR

Tevar was the first big release of January 2015. It boasted of the first-time pairing of Arjun Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha and a rustic character played by the underrated Manoj Bajpai. Come filmi Friday, and nothing worked for Tevar. The movie left us exhausted.

SHAMITABH

Shamitabh had powerhouse performers like Amitabh Bachchan and Dhanush. Add to this an intriguing storyline and you had a film to look forward to. However, R. Balki's flick failed to create any impression.

ROY

Ranbir Kapoor hasn't had too much to brag about in the past two years. Roy was highly anticipated because it boasted of marrying his proven acting skills with a thrilling script that flirted with the fantasy genre.

Hype was built around the songs, the script and the purported chemistry between first-time screen couple Ranbir and Jacqueline Fernandez. But all that the movie did was disappoint fans with a script-ke-andar-script-ke-andar-script, which just didn't work.

One would think that Ranbir would catch a break with his next movie, but we'll talk about that later.

Detective Byomkesh Bakshy

Detective Byomkesh Bakshy was supposed to be The Moment for Sushant Singh Rajput. After being appreciated in Kai Po Che, where he shared screen space with other actors, this film, like Shuddh Desi Romance, gave him  a chance to star in the lead. In fact, he was playing the title role.

That the movie was made under the YRF banner made it all the more anticipated. No stone was left unturned to promote it. Byomkesh Bakshy suffered from what many mystery movies suffer from - too many characters with a convoluted plot.

The result was for all to see at the box-office.

Bombay Velvet

This might go down in history as one of the most anticipated movies in Bollywood. There was Anurag Kashyap behind the screens, Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma in front of the camera, and Karan Johar playing the baddie.

Bollywood fans went crazy when they learnt that Bombay Velvet was a period film - complete with elaborate sets and the works. But we had yet another disaster at the turnstiles..

The colossal failure was made at a budget of Rs 120 crore and didn't recover even half of it.
Something that'd make even the most hardened producer flinch.

Hamari Adhuri Kahaani

The next on this list is Hamari Adhuri Kahaani. This was Vidya Balan's first movie after a short hiatus and Vishesh Films created a lot of hype around it.

A dreamy trailer and fans were hooked to the idea of Emraan Hashmi's chemistry with Vidya.
What put off the viewers? A storyline right outta the 80s? Or dialogues from a 70s film?

We'll never know, but Hamari Adhuri Kahani was yet another major letdown.

BROTHERS

Before Brothers, there was a theory that Akshay Kumar couldn't go wrong with action - but the film broke that myth. The seemingly immortal Akshay was pitted against Sidharth Malhotra and the two fought it out in a MMA ring.

Hype around the movie was a lot, with the filmmakers releasing action sequences (making of sequences online) and even a song dubbed as the Brothers Anthem.

But even some of the best choreographed fight sequences in Bollywood couldn't save the movie and it tanked. And if you thought only action movies had a bad run this year, you got another thought coming with the next movie on this list.

KATTI BATTI

Katti Batti was hyped - and how! Kangana Ranaut was on a roll and everyone was looking forward to seeing some fresh chemistry between her and Imran Khan on the screen.

Nikhil Advani was directing the film, which was a big-budget production by UTV. But the crowds gave it a lukewarm response and the critics wondered whether this was the end of Imran's career.

The movie was a blockbuster - but only in the minds of those associated with it. To add insult to injury, after the scathing reviews, the movie made less than Rs 30 crore in lifetime collections.

HERO

A lot rode on Hero with all the big names pooling in behind this one. Hero was the remake of the '80s smash hit of the same name, made under the Mukta Arts banner.

It was the launch of two star kids -- Sooraj Pancholi and Athiya Shetty -- and was the production of Salman Khan Films. The cast and crew were all over with promotions and each of them was nothing less than a festival with everyone in attendance.

But the movie's performance was underwhelming to say the least.

SHAANDAAR

And then, there was this movie. Shaandaar was one of the most anticipated films of 2015.
Alia Bhatt and Shahid Kapoor played insomniacs who fall in love during a destination wedding. What can go wrong?

Everything, apparently.

No one could quite grasp what director Vikas Bahl was trying to tell us. Was Shaandaar about two people falling in love, a daughter discovering her illegitimacy, another daughter shutting down those body-shaming her or was it about the power of mushrooms?

There was too much happening and the audience bought none of it.
